China officially launches commercial trials of satellite IoT services

Time: November 23, 2025
On November 22, the 2025 China 5G+ Industrial Internet Conference opened in Wuhan, Hubei. Reporters learned from the conference that China has officially launched the commercial trial of satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services. This commercial trial will enrich the satellite communication market supply and support the safe and healthy development of emerging industries such as commercial aerospace and low-altitude economy.
Satellite Internet of Things (IoT) utilizes satellite communication technology to connect a vast number of devices on the ground, in the ocean, and in the air, providing data collection and transmission services. Its application scenarios cover marine fisheries, transportation logistics, energy and water conservancy, emergency communication, low-altitude economy, industrial Internet, and more.
As an important component of new infrastructure, satellite communication has entered a fast lane of development since the beginning of this year, with notable progress in constellation construction, technological breakthroughs, and industrial development. To further stimulate market vitality and support the development of commercial aerospace, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Guiding Opinions on Optimizing Business Access to Promote the Development of the Satellite Communication Industry" in August, providing an overall layout and systematic planning for the opening up of satellite communication services.
It is reported that the commercial trial period is two years, during which eligible enterprises are supported to carry out satellite Internet of Things (IoT) business in accordance with laws and regulations. The aim is to enrich the satellite communication market supply, stimulate the vitality of market entities, enhance the industry's service capabilities, establish a safety supervision system, and form replicable and scalable experiences and models through the commercial trial of satellite IoT business.
